Unit 2 will be focused around the Essential Question: How can we use art and design to learn about energy?

We started Unit 2 last week with a Design Challenge using Human-Centered Design methods. Students were presented with the following challenge:

Kennywood is considering building a new ride. They would like to attract more kids in the 8-10 age range and are taking proposals.

  • Working Title: “Flying Solo”

  • has to be a unique idea (they don’t already have it)

  • suitable for ages 8-10

Next, students went through an ideation exercise where they brainstormed 4 ideas for their ride. Then, narrowed it down to their 2 best ideas and added detail to each. Finally, they picked their favorite idea and made a storyboard of the timeline of the ride. Next, students decided whether to finalize their idea on their own or collaborate and mash-up their idea with other students to make a Concept Poster sharing the most important information about their ride to send to Kennywood.
