6th Grade Exploratory APPLYING CREATIVITY

Students in 6th grade will experience Thinking Lab as one part of their Exploratory Program.  Each 6th grader will participate in Thinking Lab for one quarter.  Those that take a special interest in Thinking Lab will be able to select Advanced Thinking Lab as their 4th quarter exploratory course.

Essential Question:

"How can artists impact our community?"

In this course, students will begin to explore and define the Pittsburgh community and its stakeholders.  Through a study of local and public art,  students will begin to understand their role as a community member and the influence they can have as an artist.

6th grade Thinking Lab focuses on COLLABORATION by designing and implementing the goals of their Thinking Lab course together.  After going through a collaborative process to express their interests and values, students identified the following as areas they want to explore more during Quarter 1:

  • Portraits

  • Public Art (especially murals)

  • Architecture
